Rainy Days and Mondays

Who remembers Karen Carpenter singing, Rainy Days and Mondays? When we tire of the rain and long for the warmth of sunshine, we remember to think of the clean, renewable, and life‐sustaining power of water. The rain keeps our rivers full, and the hydropower generated by dams keeps our electricity reliable and affordable.

At our meeting in April, Greg Huebner gave a weather report and said there is a slight improvement in the water supply outlook for this year. The reason our water supply was at risk is due to dryness in October and November and little‐to‐no mountain snowfall in December. The January cold snap was a significant strain on power resources, and power was shipped in from Arizona to ensure power was uninterrupted for Washington customers. Thankfully, the rain in February and March has improved the outlook for now.
