Who Do You Want To Access Your Electric Account?

Who do you want to access your electric account? If the answer to that question is anyone other than yourself, that information has to be presented to Elmhurst Mutual in writing before we can add them to your account or speak to them about your account.

This includes a spouse. This policy was mandated to Elmhurst Mutual in 2008 by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and is referred to as the “Red Flags Policy.”

This policy is intended to protect consumer’s personal information by establishing a well defined Identity Theft Protection Program. Now the State of Washington as of October 2016 has enacted RCW 19.29A.100 – 120 which extends the protection of personal information even further.

The consequences of these two mandates is that our Customer Service Representatives will be asking for picture ID when any consumer wants to make a change to there account and they will also be providing a form to document any requested change. We know this can be frustrating but believe that in the long term these precautions are in our consumers best interest.
