Rate Increase

As the Owners of Elmhurst Mutual Power & Light Company are our Customers, we should all be proud our power rates have remained among the lowest in the United States.

In January 2022, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the average residential rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in the United States as 13.72 cents. The average residential rate per kWh in Washington State was 9.76 cents; Elmhurst was approximately 5.7 cents.

Our last rate increase was in 2019. The decision to adjust rates for 2022 wasn’t taken lightly. The Elmhurst Board voted on the rate adjustment during the monthly meeting on May 10, 2022. “We work hard to keep our costs low for our community; however we must collect funds to pay for increases in overhead costs including our BPA power and recent national inflation which has raised costs for our suppliers,” said Bryan Bertacchi, General Manager. He added, “This moderate increase will help us keep up with inflation we have all seen recently in our community”.

After careful consideration, our Board approved a modest increase of 5% overall in rates, compared to much larger increases by our suppliers and other third parties. By June 1, 2022, the typical average monthly bill will increase from $79 to $83.

In addition, our standard late fees (suspended during the COVID‐19 pandemic) will be reinstated June 1. Please contact our office with any questions.
